Philosophy

I view ballet as one of the most physically demanding performing arts, driven by an unending quest for perfection that may never be fully attainable. This understanding informs my personal teaching philosophy, which is rooted in the principles of discipline, grit, resilience, and perseverance. Central to my philosophy is the development of P.R.I.D.E. or Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence. Regardless of whether my students pursue professional dance careers or enter entirely different fields, the values cultivated in my classes will equip them to reach their highest potential and excel in their chosen paths.

Approach

My approach to ballet education prioritizes quality over quantity, ensuring that proper technique and strength take precedence over mere trickery. The priority must be put on always maintaining the physicality and artistry of balletic movement. Regardless of age or skill level, my goal as an educator is to inspire and motivate my students, encouraging them to navigate the challenges of advancing their technique with resilience and dedication.

Teaching Methods

As it pertains to the methods used in the studio, I integrate a diverse array of curricula, drawing from Marcia Dale Weary, the American Ballet Theater National Training Curriculum®, Progressive Ballet Technique®, and the Balanchine technique for solely advanced levels. Starting at the intermediate stage, I emphasize the importance of strength training and resistance-based functional exercises. This focus not only aids in the development of specific muscle groups necessary for executing ballet steps, but also plays a crucial role in preventing overuse injuries. When ballet technique is broken down at a methodical level, the student can easily comprehend the detailed mechanics of each step.
